Haier Dryer Stopped Working? We Repair All Models
Whether you’ve got a budget Haier vented dryer or one of their newer heat pump condenser models, a dryer that won’t heat, won’t spin, or takes forever to dry a load needs attention. In Brisbane’s wet season, going without a working dryer means clothes draped over every surface in the house. Always Prompt Repairs services Haier dryers across Greater Brisbane — our technicians diagnose and repair all common faults, usually in a single visit. Book a repair online or call (07) 3062 2377.
Haier Dryer Faults We See Regularly
Dryer Not Heating
A dryer that tumbles but produces no heat is the most common fault on vented Haier models. The clothes come out damp even after a full cycle because they’re just being tumbled in room-temperature air. In vented dryers, the usual culprit is the heating element — a coil of resistive wire that heats the air drawn through the drum. Elements burn out over time, and when they do, the dryer runs normally but without any warmth. Our technicians test the element with a multimeter and replace it if it’s open-circuit.
If the element tests fine, the issue may lie with the thermal fuse or thermostat. Haier dryers use safety devices that cut power to the element if the dryer overheats — often caused by a blocked lint filter or restricted exhaust vent. If a thermal fuse has blown, the element won’t receive power even though it’s mechanically intact. We’ll replace the fuse and also identify why the dryer overheated in the first place, so the same fault doesn’t recur.
Heat Pump Dryer Issues
Haier’s heat pump dryers (like the HDHP80E1 series) use a refrigerant-based system instead of a resistive element to heat air. These are more energy-efficient but have a different set of potential faults. The heat pump system can lose refrigerant, the compressor can fail, or the heat exchanger fins can become clogged with lint that bypasses the filter. Heat pump dryers also have a condenser that needs periodic cleaning — if it’s caked in lint, drying performance drops significantly even though the machine seems to be running normally.
Our technicians are experienced with heat pump dryer systems and can diagnose faults specific to this technology, including refrigerant issues, compressor failures, and sensor faults that affect the automatic drying cycles.
Drum Not Spinning
If the motor runs (you can hear it humming) but the drum doesn’t turn, the drive belt has likely snapped or slipped off its pulleys. Haier dryers use a long, thin belt that wraps around the drum and runs on a tensioner pulley and the motor shaft. Belts stretch and wear over time, eventually breaking. Belt replacement is a quick repair — our technicians carry common belt sizes on the van.
If there’s no sound at all when you start the dryer, the motor itself may have failed, or there could be an electrical fault preventing it from receiving power. A failed start capacitor — the component that gives the motor its initial kick to start spinning — is another common cause. The motor hums briefly and then the thermal overload trips, leaving the dryer silent.
Dryer Takes Too Long to Dry
Excessively long drying times are usually an airflow problem rather than a component failure. Start by cleaning the lint filter — if it’s heavily clogged, airflow through the drum is restricted and moist air can’t escape efficiently. Next, check the exhaust vent and duct. If you have a vented Haier dryer with a long exhaust run through the wall or ceiling, lint accumulation in the duct can dramatically reduce airflow. Clean the entire duct path from the dryer to the external vent.
On condenser dryers (both standard and heat pump), the condenser unit itself needs cleaning. This is typically a removable filter or panel at the bottom front of the machine. If it’s blocked with lint, the moisture from your clothes can’t condense out of the air effectively, and the dryer runs cycle after cycle without getting clothes dry. Regular condenser cleaning — every month or two during heavy use — prevents this problem.
Noisy Operation
New or worsening noises from a Haier dryer can indicate several things. A squealing or screeching sound typically comes from a worn drive belt, a dry tensioner pulley bearing, or drum support rollers that need replacing. A grinding or rumbling noise during tumbling suggests the drum support rollers or glides have worn flat. A thumping sound could be a damaged drum baffle (the raised fins inside the drum that lift clothes) or an unbalanced load, though the latter should stop when you redistribute the clothes.
Error Codes and Electronic Faults
Haier dryers with digital displays can show error codes pointing to specific faults — sensor failures, heating circuit faults, motor issues, and communication errors between the control board and its sensors. If your dryer displays an error code, note the exact code before attempting a reset. Our technicians can read fault codes and diagnose the underlying component failure.
Haier Models We Service
We repair all Haier dryer models sold in Australia, including vented models (HDV series), sensor-vented models, condenser dryers, and heat pump models (HDHP series). Haier is one of the world’s largest appliance manufacturers and also owns Fisher & Paykel — our familiarity with both brands means efficient, knowledgeable service.
Parts and Warranty
Our technicians carry a range of commonly used parts on every van, including drive belts, heating elements, thermal fuses, and thermostats common to Haier dryer models. For model-specific parts, we order and return to fit — Return visits are $29 plus parts and labour. We’ll provide a fixed price quote before any work is carried out. All repairs come with a 12-month warranty on parts and labour.
Pricing and Booking
$219 includes a callout and up to 30 minutes labour onsite — most faults are diagnosed and many repaired in that time. Additional time is $45 per 15 minutes. Seniors, pensioners, and students receive a $20 discount.
