Authorised Rangehood Service

A failing rangehood lets cooking steam, smoke and grease settle on your kitchen tiles, cabinets and ceiling. Every meal you cook without a working extractor adds another layer. The repair is usually straightforward — a capacitor, a motor, a control board, or a clogged filter assembly — and most jobs sort on the first visit.
We service ducted and recirculating rangehoods every day. Stocked vans dispatched from our Underwood workshop, same or next business day across Greater Brisbane, Ipswich and the northern Gold Coast.
How to tell what kind of fault you have
Rangehood faults fall into four categories. The fix and the cost are very different depending on which one you’ve got.
It runs but doesn’t pull air out. Filter is clogged with grease, the duct (if ducted) is blocked, or the motor’s running but the impeller is worn. Filters are user-cleanable on most models — pull them out and run them through the dishwasher or wash with hot soapy water. If clean filters don’t fix it, it’s the motor or duct.
The fan won’t turn on at all. Capacitor, control board, or motor failure. The capacitor is a small barrel-shaped component that gives the motor its starting kick — when it dies, the motor hums but doesn’t spin, or stays silent. Capacitor replacement is one of the most common rangehood repairs we do.
The fan won’t turn off. Stuck switch, faulty control board, or short in the wiring. Pull the breaker first to confirm it’s the rangehood and not the wiring upstream.
Lights work but fan doesn’t (or vice versa). Separate circuits inside the unit. Often the control board has partially failed — one function dead, the other fine.
What we fix
Motor and capacitor failures
The two most common rangehood callouts. Capacitors are inexpensive and a quick swap. Motors vary — some are bolt-on units, others integrated with the impeller assembly. We carry common motor and capacitor sizes on the van.
Control board and switch faults
Touch-control boards on premium rangehoods (Miele, Bosch, ILVE) are model-specific. We diagnose first, then order the right board if it isn’t on the van.
Lighting failures
LED panel replacements, halogen bulb conversions to LED, transformer replacements on older units. If your rangehood lights flickered then died, it’s usually the LED driver, not the LEDs themselves.
Excessive noise or vibration
Bearing wear, mounting bracket damage, or ductwork issue. We pull the motor and inspect — if the bearings are gone, the motor is replaced rather than re-greased.
Filter and grease tray problems
Charcoal filter replacement on recirculating models (these need replacing every 6 to 12 months and are often the reason a rangehood “stops working”). Grease tray drain blockages on under-cabinet models.
Duct issues
External ducted rangehoods rely on the duct being clear all the way to the outside vent. Animals (rodents, birds) sometimes nest in roof vents. We can usually see the obstruction from the rangehood end and clear it from there.
Ducted vs recirculating — the maintenance difference
If your rangehood vents to the outside (ducted), it pulls steam and grease away. Maintenance is straightforward — clean the metal mesh filters every few months, check the external vent flap once a year.
If your rangehood recirculates (filters the air through a charcoal filter and blows it back into the room), the charcoal filter has a service life of around 6 to 12 months depending on cooking volume. After that the filter is saturated and the rangehood stops removing odours — it just moves the air around. A surprisingly large number of “broken rangehood” callouts are actually saturated charcoal filters on recirculating units.
Worth checking your charcoal filter age before booking a service call.
How we work
You book online or call. We confirm a 1-hour arrival window. The technician diagnoses the fault on site, gives you a fixed price before any work starts, and most jobs complete on the first visit using parts from the van.
If a rangehood isn’t worth repairing — for example, an old unit where the motor has failed and the replacement cost approaches a new unit — we tell you straight rather than push the repair through.
Brands — warranty and out-of-warranty
Authorised warranty service for Miele, Bosch and ASKO rangehoods.
For Miele in-warranty — book directly with us. We lodge the warranty claim with Miele on your behalf, no upfront cost.
For Bosch and ASKO in-warranty — you’ll need to call Bosch or ASKO’s service centre to book. They dispatch us as their authorised service partner. (We can’t book in-warranty Bosch or ASKO direct — that has to go through them.)
Out-of-warranty for any brand — book direct with us. Fixed-price quote before any work starts.
Also serviced (out-of-warranty) across major brands sold in Australia: Westinghouse, Electrolux, Fisher & Paykel, Smeg, ILVE, Omega, and standard cabinet rangehoods.
