Common Whirlpool Cooktop Faults
Element Not Heating
A single zone that won’t heat while others work normally usually means that element or its connection has failed. In ceramic cooktops, the radiant element beneath the glass can burn out over time. In solid plate models, the element or its regulator may need replacement. We test element resistance onsite to confirm the diagnosis.
Cooktop Not Turning On at All
If no zones respond, the issue may be with the power supply, main control board, or a safety switch. Cooktops draw significant current, so a tripped breaker, loose terminal connection, or failed control module can shut down the entire unit. Our technicians check the power supply and control circuitry during diagnosis.
Touch Controls Not Responding
Whirlpool ceramic cooktops with touch controls can become unresponsive if moisture gets beneath the glass, the control board fails, or the touch sensor ribbon cable comes loose. We inspect the control panel, clean connections, and test the board to determine whether a repair or replacement is needed.
Cracked Ceramic Surface
A cracked cooktop glass is more than cosmetic — it’s a safety hazard that can allow moisture into the electronics beneath. If the glass is cracked, the cooktop should not be used until the surface is replaced. We can source and fit replacement glass panels for common Whirlpool models.
Cooktop Switching Off by Itself
Unexpected shutdowns usually indicate an overheating fault, a faulty temperature limiter, or a control board error. Some Whirlpool models have built-in safety timers that switch off zones after a set period. We check whether the shutdown is a safety feature or a genuine fault.
