Commercial Dishwasher Repairs Brisbane

When Your Commercial Dishwasher Stops, Your Kitchen Stops

A broken commercial dishwasher isn’t like a residential one — you can’t just hand-wash a few plates and wait until next week. When your glasswasher, undercounter unit, or pass-through machine goes down during service, you’ve got health and safety compliance at risk, dishes backing up, and customers waiting. Every hour it’s down costs you money.

We understand the urgency. We’ve been repairing commercial dishwashers for restaurants, cafés, pubs, clubs, aged care facilities, and commercial kitchens across Brisbane since 2009. Our vans are stocked with the parts that fail most often in commercial units, and we prioritise hospitality callouts because we know downtime isn’t optional for your business.

This is a different service from residential dishwasher repairs. Commercial dishwashers operate at higher temperatures, higher water pressures, and much higher cycle counts than any home unit. The components, fault patterns, and repair approach are completely different.

Common Commercial Dishwasher Problems

Heating Element Failure — Not Reaching Temperature

The dishwasher runs a cycle but the wash or rinse water isn’t reaching the required temperature. Plates come out greasy, glassware is cloudy, and you’re potentially failing health and safety wash temperature requirements (typically 60°C wash, 82°C rinse for thermal sanitisation).

Likely causes: Burnt-out wash tank heating element (the single most common commercial dishwasher failure — these elements work hard and fail regularly in high-cycle environments), failed rinse booster heater, faulty thermostat or temperature probe not calling for heat, or limescale buildup insulating the element and reducing heat transfer.

Brands commonly affected: All brands — Hobart, Washtech, Starline, Winterhalter, Comenda, Electrolux Professional.

Parts we carry: Wash tank elements, rinse booster elements, thermostats, temperature probes, thermal fuses.

Wash Pump Motor Failure

Weak wash pressure, the motor hums but doesn’t spin, or the machine fills but doesn’t wash. The wash pump is the heart of any commercial dishwasher — it circulates water through the wash arms at high pressure.

Likely causes: Seized pump motor (bearing failure from continuous use), failed motor capacitor (the motor hums but can’t start), broken pump impeller (produces noise but weak or no water flow), or a jammed pump caused by broken glass, food debris, or a dislodged wash arm end cap entering the pump chamber.

Brands commonly affected: Washtech, Starline, and Comenda units are particularly prone to pump issues in high-volume environments.

Parts we carry: Wash pump motors and motor assemblies, pump capacitors, impellers, pump seals and mechanical seals.

Drain Issues — Machine Won’t Empty

Water remains in the wash tank after the cycle, the machine runs but overflows, or dirty water is being recirculated into the rinse cycle. Slow draining also causes foul odours and hygiene concerns.

Likely causes: Blocked drain filter or drain screen (food debris and broken glass are the usual suspects), failed drain pump motor, kinked or blocked drain hose, or a faulty drain solenoid valve not opening. In pass-through machines with automatic drain cycles, a failed control board can prevent the drain sequence from initiating.

Brands commonly affected: All brands — but particularly common in undercounter units where the drain pump sits below the tank.

Parts we carry: Drain pump motors, drain solenoid valves, drain hoses, filter screens, float switches.

Water Inlet Valve Failure

The machine doesn’t fill, fills too slowly, or overfills and floods. The water inlet valve controls the flow of fresh water into the machine for each cycle.

Likely causes: Failed inlet solenoid valve (stuck closed = no fill, stuck open = overfill/flood), blocked inlet filter screen (mains water debris), faulty water level float switch giving incorrect readings, or a failed control board not sending the fill signal. In areas with hard water, limescale buildup inside the valve body is a common cause of restricted flow.

Brands commonly affected: All brands. Hobart and Winterhalter units with electronic fill controls are particularly sensitive to water pressure variations.

Parts we carry: Water inlet valves, inlet filter screens, float switches, water level pressure switches.

Thermostat Calibration and Control Faults

The machine runs but temperatures are inconsistent — sometimes too hot, sometimes not hot enough. The digital display may show incorrect temperatures compared to an independent thermometer check. This is a compliance risk for food safety.

Likely causes: Drifted or failed thermostat, faulty temperature sensor/NTC probe, failed control board relay not switching the element on consistently, or limescale on the element causing uneven heating. On older machines with mechanical thermostats, the calibration simply drifts over time with heavy use.

Brands commonly affected: All brands — regular thermostat calibration is part of commercial dishwasher maintenance.

Parts we carry: Thermostats (mechanical and electronic), NTC temperature probes, control boards for common models, thermal fuses.

Types of Commercial Dishwashers We Repair

Glasswashers — Compact units for bars, clubs, and cafés. Common faults: element failure, pump issues, and poor rinse performance.

Undercounter Commercial Dishwashers — The workhorse of small to medium commercial kitchens. Higher capacity than a glasswasher, same compact footprint.

Pass-Through (Hood-Type) Dishwashers — High-volume units for larger kitchens, hospitals, and aged care. Racks slide through with a hood that lifts and lowers. More complex control systems and higher water usage.

Conveyor Dishwashers — Large-scale operations. We service the component systems (wash pumps, rinse systems, heating elements, controls) within these units.

Planned Maintenance for Commercial Dishwashers

Breakdowns cost you more than the repair bill — they cost you service time, staff productivity, and potentially your health and safety compliance. We offer planned maintenance agreements tailored to your machine, workload, and kitchen environment.

Commercial Appliance Inspection — $309
Includes up to 1 hour of labour onsite. Our technician will inspect, test, and calibrate your commercial dishwasher to ensure correct wash and rinse temperatures, check detergent and rinse aid dosing, inspect wear components (seals, gaskets, spray arms, drain lines), and identify parts that need preventative replacement before they fail during service.

We schedule maintenance visits at times that work for your business — not during your lunch rush. Depending on your machine’s model, workload, and environment, we’ll recommend a maintenance interval (typically 3, 6, or 12-monthly) to keep your unit safe, compliant, and reliable.

Benefits of planned maintenance: fewer emergency callouts, longer machine life, consistent wash performance, and documented service history that supports your food safety and HACCP compliance records.
