Do you need to have your Brisbane house rewired?
When you think about it, we service our cars annually and make sure they’re roadworthy. But how many of us stop to think about the electrical wiring or rewiring in our Brisbane houses? Do we ever wonder if we might need to have someone (i.e. a licensed electrician) check it out?
For those in recently-built houses (over the last 20 years), there probably aren’t too many issues with wiring. However, older houses from the 1960s or 1970s or even the 1980s really need an inspection.
For starters, wiring from this period reflects the light use of electricity and electrical appliances at that time. Another problem is that wires were clad in lead and rubber which are no longer used nor are they considered safe. As you can imagine, over the years, wiring can become aged and frayed and generally unsafe.

Some warning signs
Fuses keep blowing
If this keeps happening and you can’t identify an appliance that’s faulty and causing it then your house may need to be rewired.
Sockets and switches are scorched and discoloured
Never ignore discolouration of your sockets or switches, it could prove to be fatal. Brown marks may be the product of tiny fires caused by loose connections inside the sockets.
Burning smell in the house
If there’s no obviouse cause of a burning smell (you haven’t burned the dinner!) and it’s constantly there then you’re house may need rewiring. Don’t ignore the burning smell as it means that something was or is on fire. Call us immediately.
Flickering lights
If lights are flickering in several rooms in your house, this may be because of an electrical problem – get it checked out.
Hanging sockets
If one of your sockets is hanging off the wall and exposed wires behind it, you need to get an electrician onto it immediately.
Buzzing sounds from the socket
You might think it’s your imagination but buzzing sockets are ‘a thing’. Get it checked out!
Electrical shocks
No matter how small the shock, if it happens when you’re plugging in an appliance, stop what you’re doing and call us straight away.
