If your LG washing machine shows IE and will not fill, check the water supply before trying another cycle. For a persistent fault in Brisbane, book a washing machine repair online and include the model number and when the code appears.
What does IE mean?
On the LG washer models covered by LG Australia’s IE support guide, IE means the washer is not receiving enough water during filling. A closed tap, interrupted supply, bent inlet hose or blocked inlet filter may be involved. The code identifies a water supply problem; it does not prove that a particular part has failed. Check the instructions for your exact model before following a repair step.
Checks you can make without opening the washer
- Check the supply. Confirm that the laundry tap is open and that water is available elsewhere in the home. If the supply is interrupted, wait for it to return before retesting the washer.
- Look at the visible inlet hose. A hose pressed against the wall or sharply bent can restrict filling. Do not move a heavy or built-in machine by yourself just to reach it.
- Note when IE appears. Tell the technician whether it happens at the start of a wash, during rinsing, or after water has entered. Record the model number and any leak or unusual sound.
LG also describes cleaning the inlet filter for suitable models. That step involves turning off the water supply and disconnecting the inlet hose; water can spill. Follow your model’s instructions, or leave the connection alone and book a technician if access or reconnection is uncertain. Stop using the washer if there is a leak or a damaged hose.
When a technician is useful
If the tap is open, water is available and the visible hose is not kinked, a technician can test the washer and identify whether an inlet filter, valve or another component needs attention. A repeating IE code alone is not enough to quote a replacement part. We can assess out-of-warranty LG washing machines across our service area from Underwood; availability and parts depend on the model and diagnosis. See our LG washing machine repair service or the broader Brisbane washing machine repair page.
Booking and estimated cost
Book online with the model number, IE code and the checks you have already made. The estimated $219 callout includes up to 30 minutes of labour onsite. Parts and further labour are additional and quoted after diagnosis, before further work. A $20 senior, pensioner or student discount may apply. All prices are estimates only. Parts supplied and installed by us carry a 12-month warranty.
LG IE questions
Does IE always mean the inlet valve needs replacing?
No. LG lists supply interruptions, a closed tap, hose restrictions and inlet-filter debris among possible causes. The part decision needs a model-specific diagnosis.
Can I keep restarting the cycle?
Check the water supply and visible hose first. If IE returns, record when it occurs and arrange an assessment rather than assuming that repeated restarts will clear the cause.
Is IE the same as OE?
No. On LG washer documentation, IE concerns incoming water; OE concerns draining. See our LG OE guide if that is the code on your display, and confirm the meaning in your model’s manual.
