Microwave faults we are called out for

  • Runs but does not heat. The light comes on and the turntable turns, but food comes out cold. This is the most common microwave call we take.
  • Sparking or arcing inside the cavity. Stop using it and unplug it at the wall — do not run it again to see if it happens twice.
  • Turntable will not turn, or turns intermittently.
  • Blank or frozen display, or a keypad that no longer responds to presses.
  • Door will not latch, or the unit will not start with the door properly closed.
  • Loud buzzing, humming or grinding while running.
  • Trips the circuit or blows the switchboard when it starts.

On combination units — the convection-microwave hybrids built into kitchen cabinetry — both circuits have to work. The fault is usually the magnetron, the convection element, or the control board, and the diagnosis tells us which. You can read more about those units on our oven repairs Brisbane page.

Built-in, combination or benchtop — it changes how we book you

When you book, we ask whether your microwave is built into cabinetry or an oven combo, or whether it is a benchtop or portable unit. It matters, because the two are handled differently:

  • Built-in and combination microwaves are repaired onsite. These are integrated into cabinetry, often stacked with a wall oven, and removing one is a job in itself. A technician attends with a stocked van.
  • Benchtop and portable microwaves are handled at our Underwood workshop. Bench work gives us the room and the bench power to test properly, and it is the cheaper of the two options — see our terms and conditions for the current workshop charge.

Why a microwave is not a do-it-yourself repair

Every other appliance in your kitchen can be opened up by a careful person with the power off. A microwave cannot. A microwave contains a high-voltage capacitor that holds a lethal electrical charge even when the unit is unplugged and has been sitting for days. That charge does not drain on its own, and it does not care that you have switched off at the wall.

We have seen the result of someone attempting a capacitor replacement at home and taking a 2,400-volt shock. There is more on where the line sits between sensible DIY and a job for a technician in our guide to DIY versus professional appliance repair.

If your microwave is sparking, smoking, or has tripped the circuit, unplug it at the wall and leave it unplugged until a technician has looked at it.

Brands we repair

We service microwaves and microwave-combination ovens from the brands we work on every day, including Bosch, Miele, Neff, Siemens and LG, along with other major brands sold in Australia. If your model is not one you see mentioned on the site, call us — parts availability is the deciding factor and we will tell you before you commit to anything.

How we work

You book online or call. We confirm a one-hour arrival window for onsite jobs. Your technician diagnoses the fault, gives you a fixed price before any work starts, and most jobs are completed on the first visit using parts from the van. If an appliance is not worth repairing, we will tell you.

For Miele warranty claims you can book with us directly — we are an authorised Miele agent and just need a copy of your purchase invoice. For Bosch, Neff and Siemens, contact the manufacturer first to register the claim; as their authorised agent we are then dispatched to carry out the repair. Out of warranty, book straight with us.

Microwave repairs across Brisbane and beyond

We service microwaves across Greater Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan, Moreton Bay, the Redlands and the northern Gold Coast from our Underwood base. If your suburb is not listed below, call (07) 3062 2377 and we will confirm coverage on the spot.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a microwave repair cost?
Benchtop and portable microwaves are assessed at our Underwood workshop under the small-appliance charge set out in our terms and conditions. Built-in and combination microwaves are attended onsite at our standard appliance callout, which covers the visit and the first 30 minutes of labour. Parts are quoted before any further work proceeds. All prices are estimates only. A $20 senior discount is available, and every part we supply and install carries a 12-month warranty.

Is it worth repairing a microwave?
For a cheap benchtop unit, often not, and we will say so rather than take your money. For a built-in or combination microwave that was part of a fitted kitchen, almost always — replacing one usually means matching a cabinetry cut-out, and the repair is a fraction of the cost.

Can I book after hours?
Yes. Our office team answers 7am–4:30pm Monday to Friday. After hours, Ava — our phone booking assistant — answers (07) 3062 2377 and confirms a real appointment on the spot.

Do you repair commercial microwaves?
We work on domestic microwaves. For commercial catering equipment, call us before booking and we will tell you honestly whether it is something we can help with.
