Miele Dishwasher F24 Error Code — Heater Relay Fault Repair in Brisbane

Miele dishwasher showing F24? Here’s what’s happening.

Your Miele dishwasher has stopped and the display is showing F24. According to the Miele standardised fault list and the G 4205/G 5xxx series technical information manual, F24 is a heater relay contact fault — the control board has detected an issue with the relay that switches the heating element on and off.

When F24 triggers, the dishwasher interrupts the current programme and activates the drain pump. The machine will not heat water until the fault is resolved, which means dishes will not be washed or dried properly.

Important: Error codes can vary between Miele dishwasher models and generations. The F24 definition above applies to the G 4000, G 5000, G 6000 and G 7000 series dishwashers. On some Miele washing machines and washer-dryers, F24 may relate to a different fault. Always cross-check with your model’s user manual if available.

What does F24 mean on a Miele dishwasher?

The F24 code indicates a problem with the heater relay on the main control board. The heater relay is an electromechanical switch that controls the flow of power to the dishwasher’s heating element. During a wash cycle, the control board activates this relay to heat water to the correct temperature for each programme phase.

F24 is triggered when the control board detects that the heater relay contacts are behaving abnormally. This can mean:

  • Relay contacts are fused (stuck closed) — the heater is receiving power when it should not be, creating a potential overheating risk
  • Relay contacts are not closing properly — the heater cannot be activated, so the water will not reach the target temperature
  • Feedback signal mismatch — the control board’s monitoring circuit detects that the relay state does not match what was commanded

Because the heater relay directly controls a high-power circuit, F24 is treated as a safety-critical fault and the programme is stopped immediately.

Common causes of a Miele F24 error

  • Faulty heater relay — The relay contacts can wear out or fuse together after years of use. This is the most common cause of F24 in older machines.
  • Defective control board (electronic module) — The relay is typically soldered onto the main control board. If the board itself has developed a fault, the relay may not operate correctly.
  • Heating element short circuit — A failing heating element can draw excessive current through the relay, causing it to weld shut or trip protective circuits.
  • Wiring or connector fault — Corroded connectors or damaged wiring between the control board and the heating element can cause signal errors.
  • NTC temperature sensor fault — If the temperature sensor provides incorrect readings, the control board may misinterpret the heater relay state.

Things you can check yourself

  1. Reset the dishwasher. Turn off the machine at the wall for at least two minutes, then turn it back on. Run a short programme and see if F24 returns. Sometimes a one-off electrical glitch can trigger this code.
  2. Check your power supply. Voltage fluctuations or a faulty power point can affect relay operation. Try plugging the dishwasher into a different outlet if accessible, or check that the circuit breaker has not partially tripped.
  3. Listen for the heating element. Start a programme and listen carefully. On a normal cycle, you should hear the water being heated after the initial fill. If the machine fills with water but never heats it, the relay or element may have failed.
  4. Check if dishes are being washed in cold water. If you have been running cycles that seem to complete but dishes come out greasy or poorly cleaned, the heater may have failed before F24 was triggered.

F24 is primarily a component-level fault. Unlike some error codes that can be resolved by cleaning filters or checking hoses, F24 almost always requires professional diagnosis and repair.

When to call a technician

F24 should be treated as a fault that requires professional attention. A qualified Miele technician will:

  • Test the heater relay — check for fused contacts, correct switching, and electrical continuity
  • Test the heating element — measure resistance and check for short circuits or earth leakage
  • Inspect the control board — look for signs of burn marks, component damage, or solder joint failures
  • Check the NTC temperature sensor — verify it is reading correctly and within specification
  • Inspect wiring and connectors — check for corrosion, water damage, or loose connections

Our technicians carry a range of commonly used parts on every van, so many Miele dishwasher repairs can be completed in a single visit.

Frequently asked questions

Can I still use my Miele dishwasher with an F24 error?

It is not recommended. F24 indicates a fault with the heater relay, which is a safety-critical component. If the relay contacts are fused, the heating element may be receiving power continuously, which could lead to overheating. Have the machine assessed by a technician before running further cycles.

Is F24 expensive to fix on a Miele dishwasher?

It depends on the root cause. If only the relay needs replacing and the control board is otherwise functional, the repair is relatively straightforward. If the entire control board needs replacing, parts costs are higher. Our callout is $219 including the first 30 minutes and diagnosis. We provide a fixed price quote before proceeding.

Is the Miele F24 error covered under warranty?

If your Miele dishwasher is within the manufacturer warranty period, the repair may be covered. As authorised Miele warranty agents, we can process warranty claims directly — we just need a copy of your purchase invoice. Call us on (07) 3062 2377 to arrange a warranty assessment.

Does F24 mean I need a new control board?

Not necessarily. In some cases, the relay can be replaced individually without replacing the entire control board. A technician will test the specific component to determine the most cost-effective repair. We always quote parts and labour before starting any work.

Do you repair Miele dishwashers on the Gold Coast?

We cover the Northern Gold Coast — Coomera, Helensvale, Hope Island, Pimpama, Ormeau and Nerang. We do not currently service the southern Gold Coast.
