Electrolux Dryer LOC — Child Lock Explained Brisbane

Electrolux Dryer Showing LOC? It Is Not a Fault

If your Electrolux dryer is displaying LOC and the buttons are not responding, take a breath — this is not a fault. LOC is short for LOCK and means the child lock is engaged. The control panel has been intentionally disabled so children cannot start the dryer.

Disengaging it usually takes about 5 seconds. If the lock will not clear despite trying the unlock sequence, then there is a hardware fault — and that is where a technician comes in. Book a Brisbane Electrolux dryer repair or call (07) 3062 2377.

How to Disengage LOC

The unlock sequence varies slightly by Electrolux dryer model, but the principle is identical across all of them: press and hold a dedicated lock button until the LOC text clears.

Step 1. Look at your control panel and find the button marked with a padlock icon, the word LOCK, or labelled CHILD LOCK. On some models the lock function is shared with another button (often Anti-Crease or Time) and appears as a small key or padlock symbol above or below the button name.

Step 2. With the dryer powered on, press and hold the lock button. After 3 to 5 seconds, the LOC text disappears from the display. Most Electrolux dryers emit a short beep to confirm the unlock.

Step 3. Select a cycle and press Start to confirm normal operation. The dryer should respond immediately.

If the LOC text clears but reappears within a minute or two, your model has an auto-engaging child lock. Check the manual for whether this can be disabled persistently or only one cycle at a time.

When LOC Will Not Clear — Likely Causes

Wrong button held. The lock is on a different button than you think. Check the manual or look closely for the smallest padlock or key icon — they are often subtle.

Not held long enough. Some Electrolux models need 5 full seconds. A quick press does not trigger the unlock.

Power state confusion. The dryer must be powered on but idle (not actively running a cycle) for most lock-button sequences to work.

Stuck lock button. Physical wear or detergent powder can stick the button in. The press registers, but the release does not, so the lock state never toggles. A power cycle sometimes recovers; otherwise control panel replacement is needed.

Control board fault. The board itself can develop a fault that holds the lock state on. After a power surge or moisture event, this is more common. Lock will not clear regardless of button presses.

Wiring harness fault. The harness between the control panel and the main board can fail at the connector. The lock button press is never received by the board.

DIY Attempts Before Calling a Technician

1. Re-read the model manual. The exact button and hold duration are model-specific. The manual is usually inside the door or accessible online via your serial number.

2. Power cycle. Switch the dryer off at the wall for a full 60 seconds, then power back on. Try the unlock sequence again from a known-clean state.

3. Try slow, deliberate presses. Press the lock button firmly and count out 5 full seconds before releasing.

4. Check for stuck buttons. Press each button on the panel individually and listen and feel for normal click response. A stuck button next to the lock button can confuse the press detection logic.

When to Call a Technician

Book a repair if LOC will not clear after the steps above, if the lock button feels physically stuck or unresponsive, if other buttons on the panel are also unresponsive (suggesting control panel failure rather than child lock), or if the display shows LOC interspersed with other error codes (control board issue).

Frequently Asked Questions

What does LOC mean on an Electrolux dryer?

LOC means the child lock is engaged. The control panel buttons are disabled to prevent children from starting cycles. LOC is not a fault — it is a security feature. Disengage by holding the lock button for 3 to 5 seconds.

How do I turn off the Electrolux dryer child lock?

Press and hold the lock button (usually marked with a padlock icon, sometimes shared with another button) for 3 to 5 seconds. The LOC text on the display will clear. A short beep typically confirms the unlock.

Why does LOC keep coming back?

Some Electrolux dryer models have an auto-engaging child lock that re-arms after a short period of inactivity. Check the user manual for your specific model to confirm whether this is intended behaviour. If the lock engages mid-cycle without user input, the lock button or control board may be faulty.

Can I bypass the child lock?

No — there is no bypass. The lock is intentional and the only safe way to disengage it is via the lock button sequence. If the lock button itself is broken, the control panel needs replacement by a technician.

Is LOC the same as an error code on my Electrolux dryer?

No. LOC is a status indicator, not a fault. Error codes typically appear as E plus a number (E01, E20, etc.). If you see both LOC and an error code, the dryer has a fault but the child lock is also engaged — clear the lock first, then address the error.
