Bosch dishwasher showing E25? Here’s what’s happening.
Your Bosch dishwasher has stopped and the display is showing E25. According to the BSH service manual (Fault Codes PM I, doc 5600 0000157007), E25 indicates a non-return valve leak — the check valve that prevents dirty water from flowing back into the wash chamber is not sealing properly. The programme ends and the machine drains.
Important: Error codes can vary between Bosch dishwasher models and production years. The E25 definition above applies to the PM I control module range. Your specific model may display E25 for a slightly different reason. Always cross-check with your model’s user manual if available.
If you’d like a qualified technician to diagnose and repair it, book online or call (07) 3062 2377. We’re an authorised Bosch service agent covering Brisbane, Ipswich and the Northern Gold Coast.
What does E25 mean on a Bosch dishwasher?
The E25 error code points to a problem with the non-return valve (also called a check valve or backflow preventer). This small but critical component sits in the drainage path and prevents waste water from flowing back into the wash sump after the drain pump has pushed it out.
When this valve isn’t sealing properly, the machine detects backflow and triggers E25. The dishwasher will terminate the current programme as a protective measure. In many cases, E25 relates to debris caught in the valve, a worn seal, or a valve that has become dislodged from its housing.
Things you can check yourself
- Clean the drain filter assembly. Remove the bottom rack and lift out the cylindrical mesh filter and the flat micro-filter beneath it. Rinse both under running water. Debris in the filter area can back up into the non-return valve and prevent it from closing.
- Inspect the drain pump cover. With the filters removed, you’ll see a plastic cover over the drain pump area. If this cover is loose, missing, or incorrectly seated, it can cause drainage faults including E25. Press it firmly back into place — you should feel it click.
- Check the drain hose. Pull the machine out far enough to inspect the drain hose running from the dishwasher to the sink waste or drain pipe. Make sure it’s not kinked, crushed, or blocked. If the hose runs too far downhill without a high loop, waste water can siphon back into the machine.
- Run a maintenance wash. With the machine empty, run the hottest programme (usually 70°C Intensive) to flush grease and residue. Sometimes a build-up of grease prevents the non-return valve from closing fully.
- Reset and test. Turn the dishwasher off at the wall for 30 seconds, turn it back on, and run a short wash cycle to see if E25 clears. If it returns, the valve likely needs replacing.
When to call a technician
If E25 keeps returning after cleaning the filters and checking the drain hose, the non-return valve itself is most likely worn or damaged and needs replacement. This is an internal component that requires partial disassembly of the sump area — it’s not a DIY job for most people.
A technician will also check whether the drain pump is contributing to the backflow issue, as a weak pump can produce similar symptoms.
What to expect from our service
Our standard callout fee is $219, which includes the first 30 minutes of labour and a full diagnostic. If additional time is required, it’s charged at $45 per 15 minutes. Parts are quoted separately at the time of repair. We offer a $20 discount for seniors, pensioners and students.
Warranty repairs: If your Bosch dishwasher is within the manufacturer warranty period (typically 24 months from purchase), customers need to log a warranty job with BSH first. BSH will then assign an authorised repairer — which may be us if you’re in our service area.
Return visits: If a follow-up visit is required for the same fault, our return visit fee is $29 plus parts and labour. We’ll provide a fixed price quote before proceeding with any repair.
All repairs come with a 12-month parts and labour warranty.

Frequently asked questions
Can I reset my Bosch dishwasher E25 error?
You can clear the display by turning the dishwasher off at the wall for 30 seconds, but if the non-return valve is genuinely faulty, E25 will reappear once the machine tries to drain. A reset doesn’t fix the underlying valve problem.
Is the E25 error covered under Bosch warranty?
If your dishwasher is within Bosch’s manufacturer warranty period (typically 24 months from purchase), the repair may be covered. For Bosch warranty repairs, customers need to log a warranty job with BSH first on 1300 369 744. BSH will assign an authorised repairer in your area.
What does it cost to fix E25?
Our callout is $219, which covers the first 30 minutes and a complete diagnostic. If the non-return valve needs replacing, we’ll quote the part cost on the spot. Most E25 repairs are completed in a single visit.
Do you repair Bosch dishwashers on the Gold Coast?
We cover the Northern Gold Coast — Coomera, Helensvale, Hope Island, Pimpama, Ormeau and Nerang. We do not currently service the southern Gold Coast. We don’t repair gas appliances.
