Miele Dishwasher F13 Error Code — Water Intake Fault Repair in Brisbane

Miele dishwasher showing F13? Here’s what’s happening.

Your Miele dishwasher has stopped and the display is showing F13. According to the Miele standardised fault list and the G 4205/G 5xxx series technical information manual, F13 is a water intake fault at the end of a programme step — the dishwasher has not reached the required water level by the time the fill phase should have completed.

When F13 triggers, the programme is interrupted and the drain pump is activated. The machine will not proceed to the next step until the water supply issue is resolved.

Important: Error codes can vary between Miele dishwasher models and generations. The F13 definition above applies to the G 4000, G 5000, G 6000 and G 7000 series dishwashers. On some models, F13 is displayed simply as a water inlet fault. Always cross-check with your model’s user manual if available.

What does F13 mean on a Miele dishwasher?

The F13 code indicates that the dishwasher has attempted to fill with water but has not reached the required water level by the end of the allocated fill time for a programme step. The control board monitors the water level using a pressure sensor (or flow meter, depending on the model). If the target level is not reached within the expected timeframe, the control board registers F13.

According to Miele’s official troubleshooting, the most common reason for F13 is that the water inlet is blocked or restricted. This could be at any point between your household water supply and the dishwasher’s internal fill system.

F13 differs from F12 (which triggers at the start of a step when no water is detected) and F14 (which relates to the heater pressure switch during the heating phase). F13 means water is entering the machine, but not enough of it, or not fast enough.

Common causes of a Miele F13 error

  • Water supply tap not fully open — The most basic cause. The stopcock or tap supplying the dishwasher may be partially closed or accidentally turned off.
  • Kinked or restricted inlet hose — The water inlet hose may be kinked, crushed, or looped in a way that restricts flow. This is common after kitchen renovations or when a machine has been pulled out and pushed back.
  • Clogged inlet filter — The mesh filter at the inlet valve or at the hose connection traps sediment and debris from your water supply. Over time, this filter can become blocked, particularly in areas with hard water or older plumbing.
  • Low water pressure — If your household water pressure is below 30 kPa (0.3 bar), the dishwasher may not fill to the required level within the time limit. This can be intermittent, especially during peak usage times.
  • Faulty water inlet valve — The solenoid valve that controls water entry into the machine may not be opening fully, or may have failed electrically.
  • Faulty flow meter — The flow meter measures the volume of water entering the machine. If it is faulty, the control board may incorrectly believe not enough water has entered.

Things you can check yourself

  1. Check the water supply tap. Make sure the tap supplying the dishwasher is fully open. Turn it off and back on to confirm. This is the most common cause of F13 and the easiest to fix.
  2. Check for kinks in the inlet hose. Pull the dishwasher forward slightly (if possible) and inspect the inlet hose from the tap to the back of the machine. Straighten any kinks or tight bends.
  3. Clean the inlet filter. Turn off the water supply. Disconnect the inlet hose from the tap end and look for a small mesh filter. Remove any sediment or debris. Reconnect and turn the water back on.
  4. Check water pressure at other taps. Run the kitchen tap while the dishwasher is trying to fill. If the flow is weak, you may have a general water pressure issue in your home.
  5. Check the waterproof system (WPS) hose. If your Miele dishwasher has a WPS inlet hose (a double-walled hose with a solenoid valve), check that the hose connection is secure and there are no visible signs of damage or leaking.
  6. Reset and test. Turn the dishwasher off at the wall for 30 seconds. Turn it back on and run a short programme. If F13 returns, the issue is likely a component fault requiring professional attention.

When to call a technician

If F13 persists after checking the water supply, hose, and inlet filter, the fault may be caused by:

  • Defective water inlet valve — not opening fully or failed electrically
  • Faulty flow meter — giving incorrect readings to the control board
  • Faulty pressure sensor — not accurately measuring the water level in the machine
  • WPS hose failure — the solenoid in the waterproof system hose may have tripped or failed
  • Control board fault — the electronic module may be misinterpreting sensor data

Our technicians carry a range of commonly used parts on every van, including inlet valves, flow meters, and WPS hoses, so many Miele dishwasher repairs can be completed in a single visit.

Frequently asked questions

Can I reset a Miele dishwasher F13 error?

You can clear the error by turning the dishwasher off at the wall for 30 seconds. However, if the water supply issue has not been resolved — a closed tap, kinked hose, or blocked filter — F13 will return on the next cycle. Fix the root cause first.

What is the difference between F12 and F13 on a Miele dishwasher?

Both are water intake faults, but they occur at different points. F12 triggers at the start of a programme step when the machine detects no water intake at all. F13 triggers at the end of a step when the machine has received some water but not enough to reach the target level. F12 usually points to a completely blocked or closed supply, while F13 suggests restricted flow.

Is the Miele F13 error covered under warranty?

If your Miele dishwasher is within the manufacturer warranty period, the repair may be covered. As authorised Miele warranty agents, we can process warranty claims directly — we just need a copy of your purchase invoice. Call us on (07) 3062 2377 to arrange a warranty assessment.

Could F13 be caused by my home’s water pressure?

Yes. Miele dishwashers require a minimum supply pressure of 30 kPa (0.3 bar). If your household water pressure drops below this — particularly during peak times when multiple taps, showers or appliances are running — the dishwasher may not fill adequately. Check other taps for weak flow.

Do you repair Miele dishwashers on the Gold Coast?

We cover the Northern Gold Coast — Coomera, Helensvale, Hope Island, Pimpama, Ormeau and Nerang. We do not currently service the southern Gold Coast.
