Miele Dishwasher F70 Error Code — Float Switch Fault Repair in Brisbane

Miele dishwasher showing F70? Here’s what’s happening.

Your Miele dishwasher has stopped mid-cycle and the display is showing F70. According to the Miele standardised fault list and the G 4205/G 5xxx series technical information manual, F70 is a float switch fault — the machine has detected water in the base (drip pan) and has activated flood protection.

When F70 triggers, the programme is interrupted immediately and the drain pump starts operating. The drain pump continues to run even after the machine has been switched off. The only way to deactivate the drain pump is to disconnect the power supply.

Important: Error codes can vary between Miele dishwasher models and generations. The F70 definition above applies to the G 4000, G 5000, G 6000 and G 7000 series dishwashers. Your specific model may behave slightly differently. Always cross-check with your model’s user manual if available.

What does F70 mean on a Miele dishwasher?

The F70 code indicates that the overflow float switch in the base of the dishwasher has been activated. This float switch sits in the drip pan (also called the base tray) underneath the wash chamber. Under normal operation, this tray should be dry.

If water leaks from any internal component — a hose connection, the door seal, the wash sump, or the circulation pump — it collects in the drip pan. When enough water accumulates, the float rises and triggers the changeover contact of the overflow float switch (component B8/3), closing from terminal 1 to 4. This signals the control board to:

  • Interrupt the programme immediately
  • Activate the drain pump continuously — even after the machine is powered off
  • Display fault code F70 on the control panel

The continuous drain pump operation is a safety feature designed to remove as much water from the machine as possible, reducing the risk of water damage to your kitchen.

Common causes of a Miele F70 error

  • Internal water leak — The most common trigger. Water from a loose hose clamp, cracked sump, deteriorated door seal, or leaking circulation pump housing pools in the drip pan and activates the float switch.
  • Blocked or faulty drain pump — If the drain pump cannot remove water effectively, water may back up and overflow into the base.
  • Oversudsing — Using the wrong detergent or too much detergent can create excessive foam, which leaks through seals into the base tray.
  • Faulty float switch — In rare cases, the float switch itself can malfunction, triggering F70 when no water is present in the base.
  • Waterproof system (WPS) hose failure — The inlet hose with built-in solenoid valve can develop leaks over time.

Things you can check yourself

  1. Disconnect the power. The drain pump will keep running until you unplug the machine or switch it off at the wall. Do this first.
  2. Check for water under the dishwasher. Pull the machine out carefully (if freestanding) or remove the bottom access panel. Look for water in the drip pan. If water is present, soak it up with towels.
  3. Inspect the door seal. Check around the door gasket for cracks, splits or buildup of debris that could prevent a proper seal.
  4. Check the drain hose. Ensure the drain hose is not kinked, cracked, or loose at its connection points.
  5. Check for oversudsing. If you recently changed detergent brands or type, excess suds may be the cause. Run a short rinse cycle without detergent after clearing the error.
  6. Reset and test. After removing any water from the base tray, reconnect the power and run a short programme. Watch for leaks around the door seal, inlet hose, and drain connections. If F70 returns, the leak has not been resolved.

When to call a technician

If F70 returns after you have mopped up the drip pan and checked the obvious causes, the problem is likely internal. Common faults requiring professional repair include:

  • Leaking circulation pump — the pump housing seal or cap can deteriorate over time
  • Cracked or damaged wash sump — requires component replacement
  • Faulty inlet valve or WPS hose — the waterproof system inlet hose may need replacing
  • Defective float switch — if the switch has failed, it needs to be tested and replaced
  • Control board fault — in rare cases, the electronic module may misread the float switch signal

All of these require a technician to access internal components, test circuits, and fit replacement parts. Our technicians carry a range of commonly used parts on every van, so many Miele dishwasher repairs can be completed in a single visit.

Frequently asked questions

Can I reset a Miele dishwasher F70 error?

You can stop the drain pump by disconnecting the power. However, F70 will return as soon as you restart the machine if the float switch is still activated — either because there is still water in the drip pan or because the float switch itself is faulty. You need to address the underlying cause before the error will clear permanently.

Why won’t my Miele dishwasher drain pump stop after F70?

This is by design. The Miele control system keeps the drain pump running continuously after F70 triggers as a flood protection measure. The pump will only stop when you disconnect the machine from the power supply.

Is the Miele F70 error covered under warranty?

If your Miele dishwasher is within the manufacturer warranty period, the repair may be covered. As authorised Miele warranty agents, we can process warranty claims directly — we just need a copy of your purchase invoice. Call us on (07) 3062 2377 to arrange a warranty assessment.

What does it cost to fix a Miele F70 error?

Our callout is $219 including the first 30 minutes and a complete diagnostic. Repair costs depend on the source of the leak — a door seal replacement is typically less expensive than a circulation pump repair. We provide a fixed price quote before proceeding with any work.

Do you repair Miele dishwashers on the Gold Coast?

We cover the Northern Gold Coast — Coomera, Helensvale, Hope Island, Pimpama, Ormeau and Nerang. We do not currently service the southern Gold Coast.
