Common refrigerator faults

Refrigerator not cooling but freezer is fine

Classic sign of a frozen evaporator coil in the freezer compartment that’s lost airflow to the fridge section. Usually the cause is a failed evaporator fan or a defrost system fault (defrost heater, thermostat or timer/control board). On Miele and Liebherr integrated units, the fault often presents with no error code — just warm food. Repair involves defrosting the coil, replacing the failed component, and confirming airflow recovers.

Refrigerator running constantly, never reaches temperature

Compressor working too hard. Could be a refrigerant undercharge (leak somewhere in the sealed system), dirty condenser coils restricting heat exchange, a failed condenser fan, or door seals letting warm air in. We diagnose with vacuum, electronic leak detector and surface-temperature readings, not guesswork. Sealed-system repairs on integrated units are economic on premium brands — on a budget fridge, replacement usually wins.

Refrigerator making clicking, buzzing or knocking sounds

Could be a failing compressor start relay (rapid clicking, no startup), an inverter board fault on linear-compressor models (Samsung, LG), or a refrigerant flow noise from a partial blockage. The diagnostic is straightforward once we’re on site.

Refrigerator leaking water inside or onto the floor

Inside: drain tube blocked, defrost water backing up. Floor: water line connection failed (ice maker / chilled water), or condensate pan cracked. Both fixable, both common.

Refrigerator displaying error codes

Miele: F-codes (F45, F84 etc.) cover everything from compressor to electronics. Liebherr: error symbols on the display. Bosch: E-codes (E1, E2, E5 most common). Samsung/LG: alphanumeric. Take a photo before you call — most refrigerator codes narrow the diagnostic to a specific subsystem.

Built-in or integrated refrigerator not cycling on

Could be the door-switch interlock telling the control board the door is open. Could be the main board itself. On Miele MasterCool and KFN-series units we’ve seen specific control board failure modes that need a part order. On Liebherr integrated units, we carry the more common control modules.

Premium brand expertise

We are authorised service agents for Miele and Liebherr. Warranty coverage depends on the manufacturer’s assessment and the cause of the fault. User damage, pest damage and installation faults may be excluded; standard charges apply to out-of-warranty diagnosis or repairs.

For Fisher & Paykel ActiveSmart (E-series, RF-series), we’re a high-volume non-warranty repairer. We carry the common sensor, fan and harness parts. F&P quad-door and column units are very common in Brisbane and very fixable.

We service every other refrigerator brand worth fixing — Bosch, Neff, ASKO (all authorised), plus Samsung, LG, Westinghouse, Electrolux, Hisense, Haier, Beko, Kelvinator and more. Before we arrive

1. Note the model number — usually behind the crisper drawer, on the inside wall, or on the back panel. Premium integrated units often have it on a removable card behind the upper-left grille.
2. Photograph any error code before it clears.
3. Empty the refrigerator if you can — particularly the bottom shelves. Saves time on site and lets the tech access components without unpacking your week’s groceries.
4. If it’s an integrated unit, know the cabinetry brand — Hafele, Blum hinges etc. — so we know what we’re working with.

Why Always Prompt Repairs for refrigerators

Refrigeration is its own trade. A tech who fixes washing machines all day doesn’t necessarily know what to do with a sealed-system leak on a Miele MasterCool. Our standard callout fee is $219, which includes the first 30 minutes of labour and a full on-site diagnosis. Parts and further labour are additional and quoted after diagnosis, before further work proceeds. All prices are estimates only.

Return visits are $29 plus parts and labour. We’ll provide a fixed price quote before any work is carried out.
