Waeco Fridge Repairs Brisbane
Your Camping Trip Shouldn’t End Because Your Fridge Did
You’ve packed the car, driven two hours north, and cracked open the esky — only to find your Waeco fridge is warm. Everything’s defrosting. The weekend is unravelling before it’s started.
We get it. A dead camping fridge isn’t just an inconvenience — it can ruin a trip you’ve been planning for weeks and cost you hundreds in spoiled food. Whether it’s a portable compressor unit that won’t kick in, a thermoelectric cooler that’s barely taking the edge off, or a 12V fridge that worked fine last trip and now won’t start, we’ve been diagnosing and repairing these units since 2009.
Important note: Waeco rebranded to Dometic in 2017. If your fridge says Waeco on the front, it’s the same brand — Dometic now manufactures all replacement parts. We repair both Waeco and Dometic-branded units.
We are not an authorised Dometic service agent, but our technicians have extensive experience with the full Waeco/Dometic portable fridge range and carry common parts in our vans.

Common Waeco & Dometic Fridge Problems
Compressor Won’t Start (12V/24V Units)
The most common fault we see with Waeco CF and CFX series portable fridges. You plug it in, the LED lights up, but the compressor never kicks in — or it tries to start and cuts out within seconds.
Likely causes: Failed compressor start relay, faulty control board (particularly on older CF models), low voltage protection tripping due to weak battery or poor wiring, or a seized compressor. On CFX models with variable-speed compressors, inverter board failure is increasingly common as units age.
Parts we carry: Compressor start relays, Danfoss/Secop BD35/BD50 compressor units, CFX control boards, 12V wiring harnesses and Anderson plug connectors.
Thermostat Not Regulating Temperature
Your fridge runs but doesn’t hold the temperature you’ve set — it’s either too warm, runs constantly, or freezes everything solid. Common on both Waeco and Dometic-branded units.
Likely causes: Faulty NTC temperature sensor (the small probe inside the cabinet), failed thermistor on the control board, or a deteriorating door seal allowing warm air ingress. On older Waeco units with manual dial thermostats, the thermostat mechanism itself wears out.
Parts we carry: NTC sensors for CF/CFX/CoolFreeze ranges, replacement thermostats for older dial-controlled models, digital control boards.
Fan Motor Not Running
The compressor runs but the fridge isn’t cooling effectively. You might hear the compressor cycling on and off more frequently than usual. The condenser fan (external) or evaporator fan (internal) has failed.
Likely causes: Worn fan motor bearings (common after 3–5 years of regular use), seized fan blade from dust and debris buildup, or a failed fan motor. On units stored in dusty environments (sheds, garages, ute trays), fan motors deteriorate faster.
Parts we carry: Condenser fan motors for CF/CFX series, evaporator fan assemblies, fan blade replacements.
Door Seal Deterioration
The fridge runs constantly, struggles to hold temperature, or builds up excessive condensation or frost inside the cabinet. Often overlooked as a cause of poor cooling performance.
Likely causes: Cracked, compressed, or warped door gasket — especially common on units that cop sun exposure or live permanently in a vehicle. The magnetic strip inside the seal weakens over time, reducing the seal pressure against the cabinet.
Parts we carry: Replacement door seals for Waeco CF, CFX, CoolFreeze, and Dometic CFF/CFX3 ranges.
Thermoelectric Cooler Underperforming
Applies to Waeco/Dometic thermoelectric (Peltier) coolers like the TC and TropiCool series. These units cool to a set number of degrees below ambient — they don’t have a compressor. In hot Australian conditions, they often can’t keep contents cold enough.
Likely causes: Failed Peltier module (the semiconductor element that creates the cooling effect), blocked or failed fan on the hot side, poor ventilation around the unit, or simply asking more of the unit than it can deliver in 35°C+ ambient temperatures. We’ll diagnose whether it’s a repairable fault or a limitation of the technology.
Parts we carry: Peltier modules, fan motors, thermal paste for reassembly.
