Fisher & Paykel Dishwasher Showing F30? Here’s the Cause
Your Fisher & Paykel dishwasher has stopped, the wash chamber may still have standing water, and the display reads F30. F30 is F&P’s drainage fault code — the control board attempted to drain the wash water at the end of a cycle, didn’t complete the drain within the allowed time window, and halted the cycle to prevent damage.
About half the time, F30 is fixable from your end with a filter clean. The other half needs a technician to inspect the drain pump or control board. Book a Brisbane Fisher & Paykel dishwasher repair or call (07) 3062 2377.
What F30 Means on a Fisher & Paykel Dishwasher
F&P’s drainage cycle works in two phases: the drain pump runs, and the pressure switch confirms the wash chamber has emptied. The control board has a maximum time window for this — typically 90 to 120 seconds depending on model. If the pressure switch still senses water past the timeout, F30 fires and the dishwasher stops.
This affects most F&P dishwasher series including DishDrawer single and double-drawer models, plus the freestanding and built-in conventional dishwasher ranges sold across Brisbane.
Common Causes
Blocked drain filter. The most common cause. The cylindrical filter at the base of the wash chamber catches food scraps, broken glass, plastic labels, and grease. When it’s full, water can’t reach the pump efficiently and the drain times out.
Kinked or blocked drain hose. If the dishwasher has been moved or pushed back hard against the wall, the drain hose can pinch. Sediment buildup inside the hose is also common in Brisbane homes with hard water.
Foreign object in the drain pump. Glass fragments, a piece of cutlery, or fruit stones can pass the filter and lodge in the pump impeller. The pump tries to run but cannot move water.
Failed drain pump. The pump motor itself burns out or seizes. You may hear no pump activity during the expected drain phase.
Pressure switch fault. Less commonly, the switch falsely reports water present even when the chamber has drained. The dishwasher reads “drain incomplete” and triggers F30.
Sink standpipe blockage. If the dishwasher drain connects to your kitchen sink standpipe and the standpipe itself is partially blocked, the drain water backs up. F30 fires even though the dishwasher pump is working fine.
DIY Steps
1. Power down. Switch the dishwasher off at the wall and turn off the water supply.
2. Remove and clean the filter. Take out the bottom rack. Unscrew the cylindrical filter assembly at the base of the wash tub (anti-clockwise on most models). Rinse under running water and use an old toothbrush on the mesh if there’s heavy buildup. Inspect the sump beneath for visible debris.
3. Check the drain hose. Pull the dishwasher forward enough to see the hose run at the rear. Should be a smooth curve, not pinched or kinked, with a loop reaching the F&P-specified height before dropping to the standpipe or sink connection.
4. Test sink drainage. Run the kitchen tap and watch the sink drain. If your sink is slow to drain, the dishwasher will also have F30 problems regardless of its own internal state.
5. Reset and test. Refit the filter firmly, restore power and water, and run a Rinse Only cycle. If the cycle completes normally, the filter clean was the fix. If F30 returns, escalate to a technician.
When to Call a Technician
Book a Brisbane F&P dishwasher repair if F30 persists after a thorough filter clean and hose check, if you hear no pump activity during the drain phase, if you see standing water that won’t pump out at all, or if F30 is intermittent across multiple cycles. Intermittent F30 often indicates an early-stage pump motor failure that will progress to permanent over weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does F30 mean on a Fisher & Paykel dishwasher?
F30 indicates a drainage fault. The dishwasher attempted to drain wash water but did not complete the drain cycle within the expected time window. Causes range from a blocked filter to a failed drain pump motor.
How do I reset the F30 error?
After clearing the filter and any visible blockages, switch the dishwasher off at the wall for 60 seconds, then turn it back on. Run a short Rinse Only cycle to confirm drainage. If F30 returns, the cause is internal and needs professional diagnosis.
Can I still use my F&P dishwasher with F30 showing?
No. The dishwasher will not complete any wash cycle while F30 is active. Forcing repeated cycles risks burning out the drain pump or damaging the control board. Stop using the machine and book a repair.
Does F30 apply to F&P DishDrawer models?
Yes — F30 appears on both single and double DishDrawer models for drainage faults, though the filter location and access differ from conventional dishwashers. The diagnostic steps are similar: filter clean first, then escalate if the fault persists.
