Common Washing Machine Problems We Fix Every Week
Machine Won’t Drain — Clothes Still Soaking Wet
Your cycle finishes but the drum’s full of water. Soaked clothes. Can’t spin them out.
Usually it’s a clogged drain pump filter clogged with lint, coins, or bobby pins. Sometimes the drain pump motor’s shot. Or the drain hose is kinked behind the machine. We see this constantly in LG washers (OE error code), Samsung, and Fisher & Paykel Smart Drive models.
We carry drain pumps, filters, and hoses. Most of the time it’s a 30-minute job.
Loud Grinding or Rumbling During Spin Cycle
You hear metal-on-metal grinding. Sounds awful. It’s getting worse each wash.
The drum bearings have worn out. When they go, water gets into the bearing cavity and it all rusts up. The main shaft seal fails and that’s when the grinding starts. Common in Bosch and Siemens machines after 6–8 years of use. Also see it regularly in older LG and Samsung models.
We carry bearing kits with new seals and tub gaskets. The repair usually takes 1.5–2 hours but stops the damage from spreading.
Machine Won’t Spin or Spin Cycle Stops Mid-Way
The drum should spin fast at the end of the cycle. Instead, nothing. Or it starts spinning then stops.
Could be a broken or stretched drive belt. Could be a dead motor capacitor. Could be the motor control board has failed. Or the load imbalance sensor isn’t working properly. Samsung machines often develop control board failures. Fisher & Paykel Smart Drive units stretch their belts over 7–10 years. Electrolux and Simpson models too.
We’ve got drive belts, motor capacitors, and control board replacements in our vans. Most jobs are 1–1.5 hours.
Door Won’t Lock or Won’t Open After Cycle
The door lock solenoid has failed so the door won’t engage. Or the opposite—the door locks fine but it won’t unlock when the cycle ends.
Could be a broken latch mechanism. Could be the door gasket or seal is damaged and the door’s not seating properly. Samsung, LG, and Electrolux/AEG machines are common culprits here.
We carry door lock assemblies and interlock switches. Usually 45 minutes to an hour to swap it out.
Water Leaking From Front, Bottom or Back
You pull out the machine and there’s a puddle underneath. Or water’s dripping down the front during the cycle.
Front loader? Likely a torn front door gasket. Could be a loose inlet hose connection. Could be a cracked drain hose or a failed tub seal on the back. All front loader brands do this eventually—Fisher & Paykel, Samsung, LG, Electrolux, the lot.
We carry gaskets, inlet hoses, drain hoses, and clamps. 30 minutes to an hour depending on where the leak is coming from.
Machine Won’t Fill With Water
You start the cycle and nothing happens. The drum doesn’t fill. The machine goes nowhere.
The water inlet valve solenoid has failed. Or the inlet screen’s clogged. Or the water level pressure switch is faulty. Asko machines throw F1 or F12 error codes for this. LG shows E1. Samsung just won’t fill.
